WE ARE THE SELF-HARM PROJECT. THIS IS AN ON-LINE COMMUNITY WITH THE PURPOSE OF HELPING, LISTENING, RAISING AWARENESS, AND MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF THOSE STRUGGLING WITH THEIR MENTAL HEALTH
Mental Health is the most overlooked health, yet one of the most common. 1 in every 4 adults and 1 in ever 5 children have mental health problems. Even with these high statistics, most people have no idea how to respond to it. If your leg is broken you go to the hospital and get a cast. If you have panic attacks, anger issues, suicidal ideations, and hurt yourself, most people do not know how to respond. Many respond with anger or disappointment and that is one of the worst ways you could respond to someone who is struggling with their mental health. Some people jump to medication or hospitalization at first sign of mental illness. The first thing most people need is someone to be there for them and support and love them. The Self-Harm project is dedicated to not only teaching others how to be there for those in need, but by being there for those in need.
Alongside teaching others how to help those who struggle with their mental health, The Self-Harm Project is meant to help those who struggle with mental health learned to better care for themselves. It is really difficult to know what you need to make your mental health better. You are constantly stuck between what is right and wrong; and what will help and what will make things worse. While The Self-Harm Project isn't able to provide the solution to all of your problems and cannot tell you exactly what to do, it is here to make suggestions that could benefit you.
Even if neither you or anyone you know struggles with their mental health, The Self-Harm Project is a good resource to have and to share with others. Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the United States (and the 3rd leading cause of death for those aged between 15 and 24.) It is important to raise awareness and help as much as possible to make the numbers go down.
