tinyboxsam:

if you’re struggling tonight, or any other time,

you are loved. you aren’t a burden. you are needed and important.

and you aren’t alone. people do care about you. someone out there needs you, would cry to know that you’re hurting and would cry to find out that you did something to yourself.

try to manage a smile and stay safe, okay?

boys-and-suicide:

I think the most important part of becoming a parent is understanding that your kid is not going to turn out exactly how you expect to raise them. Parenting isn’t a step by step rule book. It’s so much more complex than that and if the child grows up not wanting to be a lawyer, doctor, etc. don’t bully your kid into it. Also realize before having a kid to accept they could have health problems such as asthma, depression, or other sorts of deficiencies that might inhibit them from doing certain things. They may not even have the expected “straight” sexuality. The child might be born gay. If you’re not willing to accept your child for who they are and what they want to do, then don’t have a kid. Please. They will be rebellious at times, perhaps more often than others, they’re going to struggle at times, perhaps more often than others, and it’s important to keep giving them love. It will be hard if the child shuts you out or gets involved in drugs or alcohol. Just remember your kid needs to make mistakes and you can’t be the perfect parent. Some children do fail in life down the road and the best you can do is be there to help them. Don’t you ever fucking kick them out, scream at them so bad it traumatizes them, or neglect them. Although parenting is entirely up to you, please understand it will be difficult, you will make mistakes, but just remember to keep giving your kid love. A child without love is a lonely child in such a huge world. They will have trouble coping with problems, life, and people. And for the love of God, please don’t do what my mom did and walk out when things got tough and do not scream things like “I wish you were never born” “you were a mistake” and “go to hell” I will never forget these things my own mother said to me. I know how badly people want to have kids, but sometimes you’re not ready to have them. If you’re an active alcoholic, drug abuser, have anger problems, depression, unstable mood swings, please don’t have kids. Please. Get yourself under control and stable before having a kid. Kids need stability and unconditional love. If you’re going to be passed out drunk, moping around sad all the time, screaming at relatively unnecessary things, then your kid will see this and the results won’t be good.

There is nothing after you or behind you. You are okay, and if not, which is highly unlikely, you'll be okay. You won't die soon. You are safe, and you will still be safe. I love you, and so does everybody else.

tha nk you

Queertips says: On Pap Tests For Transmasculine Folks

outforhealth:

Listen up trans guys, transmasculine and non-binary folks who were assigned female at birth: if you have a cervix in your body, regular Pap tests are an important cancer screening test to add to your list of health checkups. Whether or not you’re on HRT, or ever plan on being on HRT, whatever sexual activity you do or don’t participate in with whatever parts of your body you please, getting regular cancer screenings is important.

For a whole lot of us Pap tests suck. I know they suck. I’m a trans guy and I got a Pap test two years ago and it was not my favorite thing. I’ve got a year until I need my next one and I’m looking forward to it as much as I might heavy-duty dental work. But I’m still going to schedule one and go, because while pap tests suck, cervical cancer is worse. You know why doctors want you to have pap tests? To screen you for cervical cancer.

Planned Parenthood updated their guidelines a couple years ago to reflect a bunch of new research and changes in recommendations by all the major organizations that give us advice about this kind of health care and cancer screening schedules. Pap screenings should start at age 21. Most people can then go to an every three year screening schedule until they are 29. For people aged 30 to 64, every three years for routine Pap screening is recommended or every five years if the person is getting a combined Pap and HPV test. Talk to your care provider about what’s best for you.

That said, I feel your pain. (Not all transmasculine folks feel this way about Pap tests by the way, and hating Pap tests is not a required part of being trans. Let’s get that out of the way right now.) Fortunately we have this handy .pdf which is less for you than it is for you to give to your doctor/OB/GYN about best practices for performing pap tests on trans men. Because we love you and want you to be happy, and that means taking preventive measures against cervical cancer, which involves having a doctor who is competent in trans healthcare and treats you with the care, dignity and respect you deserve.

To read the article, click below the “read more” section of this post, where we’ve saved you from a paywall by adding the article in a series of .jpegs.

And — shameless plug — I happen to schedule my pap tests at Planned Parenthood, because the doctors at my local Planned Parenthood (Planned Parenthood of the Southern Finger Lakes) are amazing and kind and know I would rather pet a cactus than be there for a pap test. So download this .pdf, print it out and take it to whichever doctor you’ve scheduled your pap test with and make them do some homework for a change. Stay healthy, queers.
