Reminder to everyone celebrating “Autism Awareness” today
- Autism is part of who we are, it’s brilliant and it doesn’t need a cure.
- Allism (non-autistic) is not inherently better than autism, it’s just that the majority of people are allistic, which means the world is tailored to them, rather than to autistics.
- Autistic people know more about autism than parents of autistic kids.
- Autism Speaks is a terrible organisation that causes a lot of harm to autistic people and you shouldn’t support it.
- You also shouldn’t Light It Up Blue, a movement started by Autism Speaks.
- Labels like “high functioning” and “severe” are silly and used to divide and dismiss autistic people. Autism is a spectrum and people have a lot of different autistic “traits” - it doesn’t just go from less autistic to more autistic.
- Autistic people are not puzzle pieces, mysteries, or missing in any way.
- Anyone can be autistic, not just the stereotypical white male kid. Girls are much less likely to get a diagnosis than boys are, though.
- The majority of autistic people are not fond of today, as it is used by to talk over us. Please listen to us today.
Conceited vs. Confidence
Conceited
- “I look better than you.”
- “You should look more like me.”
Confidence
- “I look good.”
- “I’m not ugly.”
- “I love myself.”
- I am cute.”
- “I’m beautiful.”
Just some examples of the difference between being conceited and being confident. Get those shit straight.
Little tip!
Hi, so I know this isn’t my story but I just found something I think might be helpful. I got false nails for a party and have found that it’s really been helping my trich and derma because I can’t pull or pick with them on and I’m sure they’d be helpful with nail related BFRBs because they are a barrier meaning you can’t bite or pull. The ones I got were the really cheap ones from Boots (like a UK Walgreens) but I invested in a good glue meaning they are staying on really well. I’ve had them on for 2 days and they don’t feel like they are going to ping off or anything. Just thought this might help someone!
dear trans teens
You fuckin’ got this. You sooo got this. You’re tough as fuck and can make it through. Don’t ever hesitate to message me either.
IMPORTANT PSA FOR APRIL FOOLS DAY
April fools is a day that everyone with anxiety will cringe and fear because people decide it’s okay to be jerks. So, DO NOT DO JUMPSCARES ON PEOPLE WITH ANXIETY. I can tell you first hand how terrifying it was to have someone jump out and scare me, and they gave me a full blown panic attack. I’m sure they didn’t mean to, but you gotta be thinking about what reaction you will get. You might get a laugh from someone, or you might get a serious panic attack. So DO NOT JUMPSCARE PEOPLE WITH ANXIETY, OR PEOPLE IN GENERAL. APRIL FOOLS IS NOT AN EXCUSE TO BE A JERK. Anyone with anxiety would agree that April fools is pretty much the most terrifying day of the year for them. Don’t prove them right.
